  • sugar - 2 tsp
  • pkg - 1 oz
  • milk - 2/3 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 1/2 c
  • butter - 1/4 c
  • pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • chicken broth - 4 c
  • basil - 1 tsp
  • onion, chopped - 1/2 c
  • garlic cloves, minced - 2 item
  • celery, chopped - 1/2 c
  • cubed cooked chicken - 4 c
  • buttermilk biscuit mix - 2 c

How to make chicken and dumplings:

Dumplings:1 tsp. basil2 c. buttermilk biscuit mix2/3 c. milk In a large saucepan, saute onion, celery and garlic in butter until tender. Add flour, sugar, salt, basil, pepper and broth; bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 1 minute; reduce heat. Add peas and cook 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Add chicken. Pour into greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

For dumplings, combine basil and biscuit mix. Stir in milk. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto casserole (12 dumplings). Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 30 minutes. Cover and bake 10 more minutes or until dumplings are done. Serves 6 to 8.
