Ingredients/Components

  • slices bacon, diced - 3 item
  • small onion, sliced - 1 item
  • cornstarch - 2 tsp
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • dry mustard - 1/4 tsp
  • can cut green beans - 1 oz
  • brown sugar - 1 Tbsp
  • vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • hard-cooked egg, chopped - 1 item

How to make pennsylvania dutch green beans:

Cook bacon until crisp; remove from skillet. Add onion to 1 tablespoon bacon drippings; cook until tender. Blend in cornstarch, salt and mustard. Drain beans, reserving 1/2 cup liquid. Stir in reserved liquid. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened and translucent. Blend in sugar and vinegar. Add beans. Heat. Top with bacon and egg. Serves 4.
