Cheese souffle
Ingredients/Components
- eggs - 4 item
- milk - 2 c
- dry mustard - 1/4 tsp
- Cheddar cheese, grated - 1/2 lb
- dash of white or black pepper - 1 item
- slices stale white bread at least 1 day old - 9 item
How to make cheese souffle:
Either butter the 9 slices of bread or dip each slice in melted butter. Cut off crusts and save. Cut remaining bread in cubes.In a greased 3-quart casserole, place 1 layer of cubed bread, followed by 1 layer of grated cheese. Alternate layers, ending with a layer of cheese. Blend the milk, eggs, pepper and dry mustard in a blender. Pour over the bread and cheese mixture. Cut the remaining crusts in cubes and toss in a frying pan of melted butter. Pour the entire mixture over the casserole ingredients. Bake in a 350° oven for 35 to 40 minutes, until it puffs.
