How to make cheeseburger pie:

(If your family likes cheeseburgers in buns, watch them go for this pie.)

Brown beef in skillet, stirring frequently; drain. Add celery, onion, green pepper, salt, pepper, tomato and Worcestershire sauce. (If your family does not care for celery and onions, you may add celery salt and onion powder to get the same flavor and the little ones are no more the wiser but will eat and enjoy.) Cover and simmer 15 minutes. While beef mixture is simmering, begin to prepare cheese pastry. Preheat oven to 400°.Cheese Pastry:1 c. plain flour1/4 tsp. salt1/2 c. grated Cheddar cheese (more if desired)1/4 c. shortening2 or 3 Tbsp. water Mix flour and salt in medium bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles small peas. Add cheese; mix. Sprinkle water over pastry mixture, 1 tablespoon at a time until dough will hold together. Dough can be flattened with hands or rolled out in small amount of flour, to fit pan. Makes 1 (8 or 9-inch) pie shell or top crust for 1 1/2-quart casserole.

I usually double the pastry recipe.

Place hot meat mixture in pan with crust and top with remaining pastry. Remaining pastry can be cut into strips and arranged lattice style. Bake in hot oven (400°) for 30 minutes. Serves 4 or more.
