Ingredients/Components

  • all-purpose flour - 2 c
  • baking powder - 3 tsp
  • sugar - 2 tsp
  • cream of tartar - 1/2 tsp
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • milk - 2/3 c

How to make biscuits:

Stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar and salt and cut in shortening. It will resemble coarse crumbs. Make a well in the center and add milk at once. Stir just until dough clings together. Knead gently for 10 to 12 strokes. Roll or pat to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut and place on baking sheet. Bake at 450° for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown. Serves 10.
