Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 1 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour
- water - 1 c
- egg yolks - 5 item
- coconut
- baking powder
- shortening - 1 c
- cream of tartar - 1/4 tsp
- white syrup - 1/2 c
- Cream sugar, shortening and egg yolks
How to make coconut cake:
Separate eggs and set aside whites for frosting. Cream sugar, shortening and egg yolks. Add milk and dry ingredients slowly, beating about 3 minutes. Pour into 3 greased and floured 9-inch baking pans. Bake at 350° until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool when done.Frosting:5 egg whites1/4 tsp. cream of tartar1 c. water2 c. sugar1/2 c. white syrup1 large pkg. coconut Boil sugar water and syrup until it forms a soft ball. Beat egg whites and cream of tartar until it forms peaks. Slowly add syrup mixture while continuing to beat egg whites. Cool enough to frost cake.
