Fish and chips
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- water - 2 Tbsp
- oil - 1 Tbsp
- egg yolk - 1 item
- potatoes - 1 lb
- egg white, beaten - 1 item
- flour for batter - 1/4 c
- oil or shortening for deep frying - 1 item
- flour for dipping - 1/4 c
- fish fillets cod or halibut - 1 lb
How to make fish and chips:
Thaw fish, if frozen. Cut into pieces, 1 x 3-inch (or so). Cut potatoes into similar pieces (1 x 3-inch). Combine flour and salt. Add egg yolk, water and oil. Stir until smooth. Fold in egg white. Fry potatoes in deep fat at 375° until golden brown. Drain and keep warm. Dip fish in 1/4 cup flour and then in batter. Fry until golden brown, at least 1 1/2 minutes per side.This is a traditional English recipe.
