Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • cornstarch - 2 Tbsp
  • cold water - 1/3 c
  • hot water - 1 c
  • pepper - 1/8 tsp
  • diced chicken
  • celery, cut fine - 1 c
  • can bean sprouts, drained - 1 item
  • butter or shortening - 1/4 c
  • onions, cut fine - 1 c
  • La Choy sauce - 2 tsp

How to make chicken chow mein:

Melt butter or vegetable oil in hot skillet. Add meat and stir. Sear quickly (without browning or burning). Add onions and fry for 5 minutes. Add celery, salt, pepper and hot water. Cover and cook 5 minutes. Add drained bean sprouts. Mix thoroughly. Heat to boiling point. Add flavoring and thickening ingredients. Stir lightly and cook 5 minutes. Serve piping hot with chow mein noodles or cooked rice. Serves 2.
