Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 Tbsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • butter - 1/4 c
  • cornstarch - 2 Tbsp
  • cold water
  • hot water
  • pepper - 1/16 tsp
  • soy sauce - 2 tsp
  • onion, chopped fine - 1 c
  • celery, chopped fine - 2 c
  • lean pork, cooked and chopped fine - 2 c
  • can bean sprouts, drained, can use mixed Chinese vegetables - 1 item

How to make chop suey:

Flavoring and Thickening:2 Tbsp. cold water2 Tbsp. cornstarch2 tsp. soy sauce1 Tbsp. sugar Melt butter in hot pan. Add meat, sear quickly without browning. Add onions, saute 5 minutes. Add celery, salt, pepper and hot water. Cover and cook 5 minutes. Add vegetables. Mix and heat to boiling point. Add flavoring and thickening. Stir and cook 1 minute. Serve with noodles or rice.
