  • chopped walnuts - 2 c
  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • nutmeg - 1 tsp
  • sticks margarine - 2 item
  • struesel leaves from frozen food section, thawed may be refrozen - 1/2 pkg
  • water - 1 c
  • whole cloves - 5 item
  • small piece lemon or orange peel - 1 item
  • honey - 1/2 c

How to make baklava:

Syrup:1 1/4 c. sugar1 c. water1 cinnamon stick or 1 tsp. cinnamon5 whole cloves small piece lemon or orange peel1/2 c. honey Combine syrup ingredients and simmer.

Melt margarine. Open phyllo streusel package and cover with damp kitchen towel. Cut sheets in half if necessary to fit pan size. Layer sheets in pan and lightly brush each sheet with margarine until approximately 1/4 package is used. Remaining filling ingredients are mixed and spread on sheets and 1/4 package of sheets are placed on top (again brushed with margarine). Cut into squares or diamond shape. Pour syrup over filling. Try to cover it all. Bake at 300° for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
