Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- milk - 1 item
- flour
- butter - 3 Tbsp
- cocoa
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- melted shortening - 3 Tbsp
- flavoring* - 1 tsp
How to make mom's cake:
Fudge Frosting:2 c. sugar2 big Tbsp. cocoa1/2 c. milk3 Tbsp. butter Combine flour, sugar and baking powder. Break the egg in a cup; mix with a fork and add enough milk to fill the cup. Add the flavoring and melted shortening. Mix all and pour into 8 x 8 greased pan.** Bake at 375° until done.Prepare Frosting: Boil sugar, cocoa and milk all together until it forms a soft ball in cold water. Remove from heat. Add butter. Beat until thick. Pour over cooled cake.
*The original recipe calls for whiskey. I usually use vanilla. This is a nice yellow cake and almost any kind of flavoring is good -- lemon, almond, butternut, etc.
**I use nonstick spray.
