Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 Tbsp
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • water - 1 qt
  • paprika - 1 tsp
  • ground beef - 2 lb
  • tomato paste - 8 oz
  • bay leaves - 2 item
  • thyme - 1/2 tsp
  • medium onions, chopped fine - 2 item
  • coarse pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • mushroom pieces - 4 oz

How to make spaghetti sauce:

Cook ground beef and onion in skillet until no pink remains in meat.

In deep casserole or Dutch oven, combine all ingredients, including meat. Bake, covered, in 300° oven for 2 1/2 hours. Enough meat sauce for 16 ounces spaghetti. May be made ahead and frozen. May be cooked in slow cooker on low setting for 4 hours. Stir several times during cooking.
