Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • cornstarch
  • water - 1/4 c
  • vegetable oil - 1/4 c
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • soy sauce - 1/4 c
  • thinly sliced celery - 3 c
  • chicken broth or water - 2 c
  • can bean sprouts - 1 lb
  • chow mein noodles - 1 item
  • can water chestnuts - 1 oz
  • sliced Chinese cabbage - 2 c
  • sliced, cooked chicken, cut in thin slivers - 2 c

How to make chicken chow mein:

Heat oil, salt and pepper in deep skillet or wok. Add cabbage, celery, bean sprouts, water chestnuts and sugar. Stir in chicken broth; cook about 10 minutes.

Mix cornstarch, water and soy sauce; add to vegetable mixture. Stir until mixture thickens. Add meat and heat thoroughly. Serve over hot chow mein noodles.
