Shrimp creole
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 2 tsp
- flour - 6 Tbsp
- water - 1 c
- oil - 6 Tbsp
- chopped onion - 2 c
- chopped celery - 1 c
- cloves garlic, minced - 3 item
- chopped green pepper - 1 c
- basil - 1 tsp
- tomato sauce - 16 oz
- cayenne - 1/4 tsp
- black pepper - 1 tsp
- green onion - 1 c
- bay leaves - 2 item
- thyme - 1 tsp
- Worcestershire - 1 Tbsp
- peeled shrimp - 3 lb
- can tomatoes, chopped - 1 oz
How to make shrimp creole:
Heat oil in a large heavy pot. Stir in flour and make a medium roux. Add onion, celery, green pepper and green onion. Saute until limp. Add garlic, tomato sauce, tomatoes, bay leaves, black pepper, thyme, basil, salt and cayenne. Cook 15 minutes. Add Worcestershire and water and bring to a boil. Add shrimp and simmer about 20 minutes. This dish improves upon resting several hours or overnight. Serve over rice. Serves 6.Recipe categories: Seafood, Shellfish, Shrimp.
