Ingredients/Components

  • yeast - 1 pkg
  • warm water - 1 c
  • margarine, melted and cooled - 1/2 c
  • sugar - 1/4 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • bran - 3/4 c
  • grated Parmesan
  • flour - 3 c

How to make parmesan bread:

Mix yeast with warm water and gently stir to dissolve completely. Add cooled margarine, sugar, salt, egg, bran and Parmesan cheese. Blend well. Mix in flour. Cover and let stand in a warm place about 2 hours or until doubled. Punch down and turn out onto lightly floured board. Knead just enough to form a smooth ball. Place on lightly greased baking sheet (or any pan you like). Cover and let rise about 40 minutes. Bake at 375° for 25 to 30 minutes or until a dark golden brown. Serve hot or cold.

Hint: Be sure melted margarine is close to the same temperature as the warm water used to dissolve the yeast. If the margarine is too hot, it will kill the yeastie beasties. If it is too cold, it will no longer be a liquid and will be harder to mix and slow the growth of the yeast.

This bread smells great when baking and it takes supreme effort not to cut a slice as soon as it is cool enough to eat.
