Mushroom casserole
Ingredients/Components
- milk - 3/4 c
- butter - 1 item
- shredded Cheddar cheese - 2 c
- mayonnaise - 1 c
- sliced mushrooms - 1 lb
- large onion, chopped - 1 item
- slices white bread - 10 item
- stick butter or margarine - 1 item
- large green pepper, chopped - 1 item
- can cream of chicken soup, undiluted - 1 item
How to make mushroom casserole:
Saute one stick butter or margarine, onion, pepper and mushrooms. Add mayonnaise when liquid is absorbed.Butter and cube 5 slices bread in bottom of 9 x 13-inch pan. Spread mushroom mixture over bread crumbs. Butter and cube 5 more slices of bread and place over mushroom mixture. Pour milk over all. Cover and refrigerate at least one hour (overnight is best).
Before baking, spread cream of chicken soup (undiluted) evenly over everything. (Use back of spoon.) Bake, uncovered, one hour at 325°. Sprinkle cheese on after baking; heat of casserole will melt it.
