  • canning salt - 1 c
  • clove garlic for each jar - 1 item
  • plus 1 c
  • jars
  • dill seed and 1 Tbsp - 3 fresh
  • alum in each jar - 1 tsp
  • plus 3 c - 2 qt

How to make dill pickles:

Brine:1 qt. plus 1 c. cider vinegar2 qt. plus 3 c. water1 c. canning salt Wash and sterilize jars. Have lids and rings hot. Wash cukes; pour boiling water over them. Let stand 5 to 10 minutes; drain cukes. Put alum, dill and garlic into hot jar. Pack tightly with cukes to fill jar. Pour boiling brine over cukes. Fill to within 1/2 inch of top. Seal with lid and ring. May place jars in boiling water bath for 5 minutes.
