Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 Tbsp
  • milk - 3/4 c
  • shortening - 2 Tbsp
  • all-purpose flour - 1 c
  • vegetable oil for frying - 8 c
  • egg, beaten - 1 item
  • dry mustard - 1/2 tsp
  • yellow corn meal - 2/3 c
  • frankfurters - 10 item

How to make corn dogs:

You will need 10 wooden skewers.

Combine flour, cornmeal, sugar and dry mustard. Combine 2 tablespoons oil, egg and milk. Pour liquid ingredients into dry ingredients and mix well. Heat oil in deep fryer at 400°. Insert wooden skewers into ends of frankfurters. Dip into batter, using skewers, and when frankfurters are covered with batter, place into hot oil, turning with tongs so the corn dogs cook evenly. Cook until golden brown (about 3 minutes). Remove and drain on paper towel.
