Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 tsp
  • cornstarch - 3 Tbsp
  • oil - 1 Tbsp
  • soy sauce - 5 Tbsp
  • fresh bean sprouts - 3 c
  • fresh ginger, chopped - 1 Tbsp
  • celery, sliced diagonally - 3 c
  • onions, sliced lengthwise - 2 c
  • pork, beef, chicken or shrimp, cut in thin slices - 1 lb
  • mushrooms fresh or canned, drained - 3/4 c
  • soup stock or bouillon - 3/4 c

How to make chow mein:

Cook rice. Prepare and have ready the first 5 ingredients. Combine in a small bowl the next 5 ingredients. Heat in large skillet the oil. Add meat; stir-fry just until done. Remove from heat. In another skillet, stir-fry in 1 tablespoon oil each vegetable just until slightly cooked. Add each vegetable to meat skillet after stir-frying. Just before serving, reheat meat mixture and add sauce. Cook just until sauce thickens and clears. Serve hot with rice.
