Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- flour - 1 c
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- eggs, separated - 3 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- dates, stoned and cut - 1 lb
- nuts, cut - 1/2 c
- milk - 1 Tbsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
How to make date bars:
Sift dry ingredients together. Beat yolks until thick and lemon colored. Add vanilla. Add dry ingredients to egg yolks and mix thoroughly. Fold in stiffly beaten whites. Milk may be added; this facilitates mixing. Spread 1/2-inch thick in a greased and floured baking pan, 9 x 9-inch. Bake in a slow to moderate oven (325°) for 25 minutes.
