Ingredients/Components

  • medium onion, minced - 1 item
  • cup water - 1 item
  • water chestnuts - 1 item
  • tsp pepper - 1 item
  • Tbsp flour - 2 item
  • Tbsp soy sauce - 3 item
  • Tbsp oil - 1 item
  • 1/2 cups celery - 1 item
  • lb lean pork, cubed - 1/2 item
  • lb veal, cubed - 1/2 item
  • 2 oz can mushroom pieces - 1 item
  • #2 can bean sprouts - 1 item

How to make chop suey:

Heat oil and brown pork and veal lightly. Add onion, brown lightly. Stir in flour, pepper and water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat. Cover and cook 1 hour. Add celery and mushrooms and cook 15 minutes more. Add bean sprouts, soy sauce and water chestnuts during last 5 minutes of cooking. Serve over rice. Serves 6.
