Garden casserole
Ingredients/Components
- tsp salt - 1 item
- cups milk - 1-1/2 item
- tsp pepper - 1/8 item
- Tbsp flour - 3 item
- Tbsp butter or margarine - 3 item
- Tbsp chopped onion - 2 item
- large tomato, sliced - 1 item
- cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese - 1/2 item
- Tbsp butter or margarine, melted - 2 item
- cups cubed soft bread - 2 item
- cup cooked peas or other vegetable - 1 item
- cup of cut-up cooked meat - 1 item
How to make garden casserole:
Heat oven to 350. Mix bread cubes, cheese and 2 Tbsp butter. Spread half of the mixture in greased 1 quart casserole dish and top with peas. Cook and stir onion in 3 Tbsp of butter until onion is tender. Blend in flour and seasoning. Cook over low heat, stirring, until mixture is bubbly. Remove from heat. Stir in milk. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 minute. Stir in meat. Pour over peas, arrange tomato slices on top and sprinkle with remaining bread mixture. Bake uncovered for 25 minutes.
