Ingredients/Components

  • cornstarch - 1 tsp
  • soy sauce - 3 Tbsp
  • medium onion - 1 item
  • finely chopped ginger root - 1 tsp
  • red bell pepper - 1 item
  • cup chicken broth - 1/2 item
  • boneles pork loin - 1/2 lb
  • stalks celery or bok choy - 3 item
  • cup fresh bean sprouts - 1 item
  • 8-oz can sliced bamboo shoots, drained - 1 item
  • 8-oz can sliced water chestnuts, drained - 1 item

How to make chop suey:

Heat 2 Tbsp. oil in wok, add: boneless pork loin, cut into long, thin strips, finely chopped ginger root. Cook and stir until meat is no longer pink (2 minutes) Set aside meat in bowl.

Add to wok: onion, celery or bok chop, sliced into thin diagonal slices, bell pepper cut into strips. Cook and stir for 4 minutes.

Mix broth mixture: 1/2 cup chicken broth, soy sauce, cornstarch and pour into wok.

Add: fresh bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, and water chestnuts.

Bring to a boil, stirring until sauce is thickened. Add pork mixture.

Serve over rice, with chow mein noodles on top if desired.
