Chili con carne
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 tsp
- salt - 2 tsp
- diced green pepper - 1/2 c
- chopped onion - 1/2 c
- ground beef - 1 lb
- canned tomatoes - 2 c
- clove garlic, chopped fine - 1 item
- fat or oil - 4 Tbsp
- finely chopped beef suet or 1 slice bacon, chopped fine - 1 tsp
- red kidney beans, drained save liquid - 2 c
- chili powder, diluted in 2 Tbsp - 2 Tbsp
How to make chili con carne:
Heat oil. Add onion, garlic, bacon and green pepper. Saute until golden brown. Add beef and stir until lightly brown. Add remaining ingredients. Cover and bring to a quick boil. Lower heat and simmer 30 minutes. Add beans and simmer an additional 15 minutes.Note: If additional liquid is needed, add bean liquid. Serves 6 to 8.
