Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 tsp
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • diced green pepper - 1/2 c
  • chopped onion - 1/2 c
  • ground beef - 1 lb
  • canned tomatoes - 2 c
  • clove garlic, chopped fine - 1 item
  • fat or oil - 4 Tbsp
  • finely chopped beef suet or 1 slice bacon, chopped fine - 1 tsp
  • red kidney beans, drained save liquid - 2 c
  • chili powder, diluted in 2 Tbsp - 2 Tbsp

How to make chili con carne:

Heat oil. Add onion, garlic, bacon and green pepper. Saute until golden brown. Add beef and stir until lightly brown. Add remaining ingredients. Cover and bring to a quick boil. Lower heat and simmer 30 minutes. Add beans and simmer an additional 15 minutes.

Note: If additional liquid is needed, add bean liquid. Serves 6 to 8.
