  • sugar - 2 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • soda - 1/2 tsp
  • buttermilk - 3/4 c
  • baking powder - 1 Tbsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • cream of tartar - 1/2 tsp

How to make buttermilk biscuits:

Preheat oven to 450°. Combine the first 5 ingredients, mixing well. Cut in shortening. Combine buttermilk and soda; add to dry ingredients, stirring until all ingredients are moistened. Turn dough onto a floured board. Knead lightly 10 to 12 times. Roll dough out; cut with cutter. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes.
