Angel biscuits
Ingredients/Components
- granulated sugar - 1/3 c
- salt - 2 tsp
- buttermilk
- baking powder - 3 tsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- melted butter - 1 item
- warm water - 2 Tbsp
- sifted all-purpose flour - 5 c
- active dry yeast - 1 pkg
- solid shortening - 1 c
How to make angel biscuits:
Sift sugar, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt into a large mixing bowl. Cut in shortening. Dissolve yeast in warm water in a small bowl. Add buttermilk and yeast mixture to flour mixture. Mix well. Knead mixture, adding more flour as needed. Roll out amount of dough needed to 1/2-inch thickness. Using the rim of a juice glass or a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits. Place on greased cookie sheet. Let rise until double in size. Brush tops with melted butter.
