Ingredients/Components

  • milk - 1 c
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • flour - 2 Tbsp
  • butter - 2 Tbsp

How to make au gratin potatoes:

Melt butter in saucepan. Blend in flour and salt. Remove from heat and stir in milk with wire whisk. Place on medium heat and stir constantly until the mixture thickens and bubbles. Cook and stir 1 minute longer.

For Cheese Sauce: Stir in 1 cup American cheese until melted. Sauce may be used on vegetables (potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower).

Scrub 4 to 5 potatoes. Peel and cut into 1/2-inch cubes. Place in saucepan and cover with water. Boil for 10 to 15 minutes or until nearly done. While potatoes are cooking, make the cheese sauce. Combine drained potatoes and cheese sauce in a buttered casserole dish. Bake in 325° oven for 30 minutes. Sprinkle cheese over top for last 10 minutes.
