Swiss onion soup
Ingredients/Components
- flour - 6 Tbsp
- butter - 1/2 c
- clove garlic - 1 item
- salt and pepper to taste - 1 item
- Swiss cheese - 3 oz
- onions - 2 lb
- bouillon cubes beef - 12 item
- water or 2 qt - 2 qt
How to make swiss onion soup:
Slice onions thinly. Slowly saute in butter with crushed garlic until golden. Add flour and cook until golden. Stir to prevent scorching. Beat in water or milk, salt and pepper and bouillon cubes and simmer until onions are tender (about 15 minutes). Cut cheese into thin slices and place in soup tureen or individual bowls. Pour hot soup on top. I also toast bread and place on top of soup. Cover and allow to stand 5 or 6 minutes before serving.
