Ingredients/Components

  • butter or margarine - 1/4 c
  • grated Mozzarella cheese - 1/2 c
  • sherry - 1/4 c
  • slices French bread, toasted - 6 item
  • medium onions, thinly sliced - 6 item
  • beef stock or 4 10 oz - 6 c

How to make french onion soup:

In a stock pot, melt butter. Saute onions until tender. Add stock; simmer for 20 minutes. Stir in sherry. Pour soup into individual ovenproof soup crocks or soup tureen. Float toast on top; sprinkle with cheese. Broil 4 inches from heat, until cheese melts and begins to brown. Serve at once.
