Ingredients/Components

  • brown sugar - 2 tsp
  • dried oregano, crushed
  • cloves garlic, minced - 2 item
  • dried basil, crushed - 1/2 tsp
  • dried thyme, crushed - 1/2 tsp
  • bay leaf - 1 item
  • can tomato paste - 1 oz
  • large onion, chopped - 1 item
  • large green pepper, chopped - 1 item
  • hot cooked spaghetti - 1 item
  • cans tomatoes, cut up - 3 oz
  • ground beef or pork sausage

How to make spaghetti sauce:

In Dutch oven cook ground beef or sausage, onion, green pepper and garlic until meat is browned and vegetables are tender. Drain off fat. Stir in undrained tomatoes, tomato paste, brown sugar, oregano, basil, thyme, bay leaf, 2 cups water and 1 teaspoon salt. Bring to a boil; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until desired consistency, stirring occasionally. Remove bay leaf. Serve with spaghetti. Use grated Parmesan cheese, if desired. Makes 6 servings.
