Sauerbraten meatballs
Ingredients/Components
- ground beef - 1 lb
- soft bread crumbs - 3/4 c
- finely chopped onion - 1/4 c
- bottled lemon juice - 2 Tbsp
- butter - 2 Tbsp
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- dash of pepper - 1 item
- water
- beef bouillon cubes - 3 item
- brown sugar - 1/2 c
- dark seedless raisins - 1/4 c
- gingersnap crumbs - 3/4 c
- pkg - 1 oz
- poppy seeds - 1 tsp
How to make sauerbraten meatballs:
Combine meat, bread crumbs, onion, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 2 tablespoons water, salt and pepper. Shape into 1-inch balls. Brown meat balls in small amount of hot fat. Remove meat balls; add 2 1/4 cups water to drippings and bring to boil. Stir in bouillon cubes, sugar, raisins, 1/4 cup bottled lemon juice and ginger snap crumbs. Add meat balls; cook, uncovered, over low heat 10 minutes. Turn meat balls, spooning sauce over. Cook 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.Cook noodles according to package directions. Drain and top noodles with poppy seeds. Serve meatballs and sauce over noodles. Makes 5 to 6 servings.
