Ingredients/Components

  • milk - 2/3 c
  • brown sugar - 1 Tbsp
  • butter - 2 Tbsp
  • water - 1 c
  • vinegar - 2 Tbsp
  • raisins - 1/3 c
  • chopped onion - 1/3 c
  • ketchup - 2 Tbsp
  • fine bread crumbs - 1/4 c
  • dash of salt and pepper - 1 item
  • peppercorns - 8 item
  • bay leaf, crumbled - 1 item
  • crumbs - 6 gingersnaps,
  • ground lean beef - 1 lb

How to make sauerbraten meatballs:

Mix together ground beef, bread crumbs, onion, salt, pepper and milk. Make meatballs and brown in melted butter in large skillet. Mix remaining ingredients. When meatballs are browned, stir in combined liquid ingredients. Cook, covered, over low heat for 30 minutes. Serve over cooked noodles, rice or mashed potatoes. Serves 4.
