  • sugar
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 5 Tbsp
  • butter - 1 c
  • cocoa - 2 Tbsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • baking soda - 2 tsp
  • vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • powdered sugar - 1 c
  • Crisco - 1/2 c
  • 2 oz - 1/4 c
  • flour all-purpose

How to make red velvet cake:

Icing:1 c. milk5 Tbsp. flour1 c. butter1 c. powdered sugar1 tsp. vanilla Cream Crisco and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time. Beat 1 minute. Mix cocoa and food coloring. Add to Crisco and sugar. Add salt. Mix vanilla in buttermilk; add alternately with flour. Mix vinegar and soda, then add to mixture. Bake in 2 or 3 round cake pans at 350°. Bake 3 pans for 17 minutes; bake 2 pans for 20 minutes.

Icing: Combine milk and flour. Cook over low heat until thick. Cool. Combine butter, sugar and vanilla; beat with flour mixture, a little at a time.
