Ingredients/Components
- shortening - 2/3 c
- eggs - 4 item
- water - 2/3 c
- baking powder - 1/2 tsp
- salt
- ground cloves - 1 tsp
- raisins or dates, chopped fine dates preferred - 2/3 c
- sugar
- flour
- baking soda - 2 tsp
- cinnamon - 1 tsp
- nut meats, broken - 2/3 item
How to make pumpkin bread:
Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly; add eggs, pumpkin and water. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices; add to pumpkin mixture. Stir in nuts, raisins and dates. Pour into two 2-quart loaf pans. Bake at 350° for 1 hour. Three (1 pound) coffee cans may be used for baking.Note: It may take longer baking in your oven, so check with toothpick to see when properly done.
This recipe tastes better after they have sat a day or two.
