Picante sauce
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 tsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- vinegar - 1/4 c
- oregano - 1/4 tsp
- cloves garlic, crushed - 2 item
- cumin - 1/4 tsp
- large onion - 1 item
- large bell pepper - 1 item
- tomatoes, unpeeled - 1 qt
- to 3 medium jalapenos - 2 item
How to make picante sauce:
Coarsely grind tomatoes, peppers and onion in food processor. Place all ingredients except cumin and oregano in large heavy pot. Simmer uncovered over low heat to desired consistency. Remove from heat and add cumin and oregano. Put in jars and seal. Hot water bath for 3 minutes. Makes 2 1/2 pints.May substitute 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper for jalapeno and 1 tablespoon minced garlic in jar for 2 cloves of garlic.
