Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- warm water - 3/4 c
- lard - 1 Tbsp
- instant dry milk - 1/4 c
- shortening for frying - 1 item
How to make navajo fry bread:
Sift dry ingredients together. Add lard until mixture is like coarse crumbs. Stir in water. Knead on floured surface. Divide dough into balls. Cover and let rest. Roll each ball into flat circle. Make hole in center. Fry each one in hot fat until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Makes about 8.Recipe categories: Breads, American, Flat Shaped breads.
