Ingredients/Components
- cinnamon
- flour - 3 c
- brown sugar - 3/4 c
- nutmeg
- soda - 1/2 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- honey - 1/2 c
- allspice - 1/2 tsp
- dark molasses - 1/2 c
- slivered almonds - 1/2 c
- mixed candied fruit, cut fine - 1/2 c
How to make lebkuchen:
Beat egg. Add sugar; beat until fluffy. Stir in honey and molasses. Sift dry ingredients. Add to first mixture. Mix well. Stir in nuts and fruit. Chill several hours.On floured surface, roll 1/4-inch thick. Cut into 3 1/2 x 2-inch rectangles. Bake on greased cookie sheet about 12 minutes at 350°. Cool slightly. Brush with lemon glaze of 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Brush top of cookie. Put slivered almond on top.
