Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • shortening - 2/3 c
  • bread flour - 6 c
  • white sugar - 2/3 c
  • yeast - 1 pkg
  • lukewarm water - 2 c

How to make homemade bread:

Dissolve yeast in warm water and add shortening, sugar, salt, egg and 3 cups flour. Mix until smooth. Add remaining flour, mixing with a spoon. Let it rise until it doubles in size.

Shape into loaves, dinner rolls or sweet rolls. Put dough into greased pans. Let rise again until it doubles in size. Bake at 350° for about 40 or 50 minutes or until light brown. Be careful not to overbake.
