Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/4 c
  • pkg - 1 oz
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • butter - 2 Tbsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • Crisco - 1/2 c

How to make granny's biscuits:

Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water and set aside. Mix dry ingredients in order listed. Cut in Crisco. Stir in butter, milk and yeast water. Knead lightly, then roll out and cut. Bake 20 minutes in preheated 400° oven.

Biscuits seem to taste better if after rolling out and placing on a baking sheet, you let set for 30 minutes, but you could bake them immediately.

This dough can be placed in the refrigerator in a plastic bag or covered bucket.
