Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • cinnamon - 2 tsp
  • eggs - 2 item
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • baking soda - 1/2 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • molasses - 1 c
  • ginger - 1 tsp
  • hot water - 1 c
  • cloves - 1/2 tsp

How to make gingerbread:

Cream shortening. Gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Blend in molasses. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, soda, ginger, cinnamon and cloves. Add to creamed mixture alternately with hot water. Turn into well-greased 9-inch square pan. Bake at 350° for 40 minutes.
