Gingerbread bars
Ingredients/Components
- vegetable oil spray - 1 item
- acceptable unsalted margarine at room temperature - 6 Tbsp
- dark brown sugar, firmly packed - 1 c
- large egg whites - 2 item
- molasses - 1/4 c
- all-purpose flour
- whole wheat flour - 1 c
- dry skim milk powder - 1/4 c
- baking powder - 3/4 tsp
- baking soda - 3/4 tsp
- powdered ginger - 3/4 tsp
- cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
- nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
- ground cloves - 1/8 tsp
- coarsely chopped walnuts - 1/2 c
How to make gingerbread bars:
Preheat oven to 350°. Spray a 12 1/2 x 8-inch baking pan with vegetable spray. In a large bowl, beat margarine at medium speed until creamy. Add brown sugar and beat at high speed. Beat in egg whites; add molasses in separate bowl. Sift together flours, dry skim milk powder, baking powder, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Add sifted ingredients to margarine mixture and blend thoroughly. Stir in nuts and mix well. Place the dough in the center of the prepared pan. Using a spatula, spread dough evenly in pan. Place pan on center rack. Bake for 25 minutes.Serves 15; only 3 grams of fat per bar and no cholesterol.
