Devil's food cake
Ingredients/Components
- cake flour - 2 c
- sugar
- salt - 3/4 tsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- eggs - 2 item
- milk - 1 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- sq - 2 oz
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- hot water - 1 tsp
How to make devil's food cake:
Sift the flour. Measure and resift 3 times with sugar and salt. The last time sift directly into a large mixing bowl. Add shortening (at room temperature), eggs and 1/2 cup milk. Stir with a spoon to blend. Beat with an electric mixer, using low speed or by hand with a wooden spoon for 20 minutes by the clock. Scrape sides of the bowl twice during beating. Add the combined vanilla, melted and cooled chocolate, soda, water and the remaining milk. Beat 2 minutes more.Pour into two 8-inch layer cake pans with bottoms lined with thin, plain paper. Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes. Cool 5 minutes before removing from pans. Put together with Mocha Frosting.
