Candy cane cookies
Ingredients/Components
- butter, softened - 1/2 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- granulated sugar - 1/2 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- shortening - 1/2 c
- all-purpose flour
- powdered sugar - 1 c
- red food coloring - 1/2 tsp
- crushed peppermint candy - 1/2 c
- peppermint extract - 2 tsp
How to make candy cane cookies:
Heat oven to 375°. Mix thoroughly the butter, shortening, powdered sugar, egg and flavorings. Blend in flour and salt. Divide dough in half. Blend food coloring into 1 half. Shape teaspoon of dough from each half into 4-inch ropes. For smooth, even ropes, roll them back and forth on lightly floured board. Place ropes side by side; press together lightly and twist. Complete cookies one at a time. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Curve top down to form handle of cane. Bake 9 minutes. Sprinkle cookies with candy-sugar mixture. Remove.
