Caramel apple cake



  • granulated sugar - 2/3 c
  • packed brown sugar - 3/4 c
  • milk - 1/2 c
  • boiling water - 1 c
  • lemon juice - 1 Tbsp
  • ground cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
  • buttermilk baking mix Bisquick baking mix
  • sliced, peeled cooking apples about 2 medium - 2 c
  • sweetened whipped cream or ice cream - 1 item

How to make caramel apple cake:

Heat oven to 350°. Mix baking mix and granulated sugar. Beat in milk until smooth. Pour into ungreased 9 x 9 x 2-inch square pan. Top with apples. Sprinkle with lemon juice. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over apples. Pour boiling water over apples. Bake 50 to 60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Serve warm with sweetened whipped cream. Makes 6 servings.

Caramel Pear Cake: Substitute 2 cups sliced, peeled pears for the apples.
