Ingredients/Components

  • vanilla flavoring - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 5 Tbsp
  • pinch of salt - 1 item
  • egg - 1 item
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • + 3 Tbsp - 1 c
  • soda mixed into buttermilk - 1 tsp

How to make tea cakes:

Mix the ingredients together thoroughly. Add plain flour gradually and mix to consistency of biscuit dough. Roll out on floured surface and cut with cookie cutter. Bake at 350° until lightly browned. Keep in tight container. Tea cakes will keep for weeks.
