Split pea soup
Ingredients/Components
- split peas, washed - 3 lb
- ham base - 1/4 c
- carrots, finely diced - 2 item
- onion, finely diced - 1 item
- roux flour and oil paste - 1 item
- diced, cooked ham optional - 2 c
How to make split pea soup:
In a large pot, cover peas with water almost to top of pot. Cook on medium approximately 1 1/2 hours. Test for softness. Peas must be soft enough to mash. Add 1/4 cup ham base and mash. Thicken with roux.In separate pan, cook carrots and onion until tender. Add to soup pot. Serve with oyster crackers or 7 grain bread.
