Ingredients/Components

  • water
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • chopped onion - 1/2 c
  • chicken broth - 5 c
  • barley - 1/2 c
  • thyme - 1/4 tsp
  • large carrot, diced - 1 item
  • 10 oz
  • garlic, minced - 1 tsp
  • large stalk celery, diced - 1 item

How to make split pea and barley soup:

Put all ingredients in a 3 to 4-quart pot. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, one hour, until peas begin to fall apart and vegetables are cooked tender.

This can be made in crock-pot on low.
