Split pea soup
Ingredients/Components
- carrots - 1 c
- pepper to taste - 1 item
- diced celery - 1 c
- ham bone - 1 item
- split peas - 1 pkg
- onions
How to make split pea soup:
Wash peas; look for floating things and pebbles. Fill a pot with 6 cups of water; add 2 cups of peas. Boil for 2 minutes. Cover and let stand for 1 hour; drain. Add ham bone, onions and 4 cups water. Bring to a boil and simmer 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Remove bone; cut off ham and add some additional pieces. Return to soup and add carrots and celery; season to taste. Cook, uncovered, for 30 to 40 minutes. Cool soup and remove fat. Reheat and serve.Recipe categories: < 4 hours, Soups & stews, 3 steps or less.
