Soft pretzels
Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- salt - 3/4 tsp
- flour - 4 c
- lukewarm water
- cake of yeast - 1 item
How to make soft pretzels:
In a large bowl, soften 1 cake of yeast in 1 1/2 cups of lukewarm water. Add salt and sugar, then the flour. Knead the mixture into a soft dough. Do not let the dough rise. Cut into small pieces immediately and roll into ropes. (Do not make the ropes too thick because they swell in baking). Twist them into pretzel shapes and lay them on a foil-covered cookie sheet dusted with flour. Brush with beaten eggs. Bake at 400° until golden brown. Makes 3 to 6 dozen pretzels.
