Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/4 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • shortening - 1/4 c
  • lukewarm water - 1/4 c
  • egg well beaten - 1 item
  • milk scalded - 1 c
  • cake of yeast - 1 item

How to make hot rolls:

Combine scalded milk, shortening, sugar, and salt. Cool to lukewarm, add yeast softened in lukewarm water. Add beaten egg. Gradually stir in flour to form a soft dough. Beat vigorously. Cover and let rise in warm place till doubled in bulk or about 2 hours. Turn out on lightly floured board. Cut out in desired size, dip in 1/2 butter and 1/2 shortening which has been melted and cooled some. Let rise 1 1/2 hours in roll pans. Bake at 400 degrees to 425 degrees until brown.
